Holiday Fun!

As we head into break...
First and second grade will be finishing their tennis unit this week with a few days to have some fun with different holiday games. Classroom parties will take place on Friday at 2pm. Have a great break! I look forward to seeing everyone after the new year!

Scooter Safety

Kindergarten will start using scooters this week. Students are encouraged to move safely while learning to get around in new ways as we near break. Once the students demonstrate this, scooter games will be introduced!

Tennis

Students will start our tennis unit stressing safety and control. A lot of time will be spent building confidence through individual skills. This is accomplished by working with over sized balls and smaller racquets. As students go through this unit, they will demonstrate skills working in partners and groups. The focus of this unit is for students to learn the skills needed for this fun sport, which means time will not be spent playing actual games but more time for related activities.

Happy Thanksgiving!

With two days left before break we have wrapped up our kickball unit. When we return from break first and second grade will be starting our new tennis unit! Students will spend time developing eye hand coordination skills as well as learning proper technique for tennis.

Starting Monday, Kindergarten classes will come to P.E. on the following days.
Finn: Monday and Friday
Mazurowski: Tuesday and Thursday
Kreps: Wednesday

Kickball!

Students in first and second grade are starting their kickball unit this week. They will be learning the rules as well as the importance of team play. This week will be spent on skills needed to play kickball. Kindergarten has started their dance unit this week and will continue into next week.

Halloween Week!

This week starts off with Halloween. In the gym we will review how to be safe on Halloween, followed by a Halloween activity! On Tuesday, Mr. Tiede will be at Ide during gym classes to review bus safety and practice a bus evacuation. The rest of the week we will conclude our dance unit. Students in second grade will be able to demonstrate their square dancing skills.

This Monday, second grade classes will be doubled up to create time for one last rehearsal of the musical Squirm. Second grade students will be performing Monday night at Lakeview Jr. High.

Bus Safety Week

Students will be learning about bus safety over the next week, and will practice a bus evacuation with Mr. Tiede in the upcoming weeks. Please remind your children to practice safety at all times on and around buses!

Short Week!

Hopefully we all come back rested after this long weekend. We will continue to take advantage of the nice weather this week by going outside. Kindergarten will continue to work on throwing and catching through practice and games.

Four Square!

First grade will be learning to play four square this week! Second grade will have a chance to practice as well as they finish their basketball unit. Four square is a great game for students to develop problem solving skills as well as interacting with others. This also gives first grade a chance to work on their throwing and catching skills.

First grade continues working with their unit as second grade is currently practicing skills and team concepts needed in basketball. Students will demonstrate their abilities while including everyone to achieve their goals.

**Friday is a half-day for students which means only first grade will have gym that day. **

Keep your eye on the ball!

First grade will be starting a unit stressing eye-hand coordination, control and cooperation. Students will be working on tossing and catching, balancing peacock feathers, juggling and more!

Saving Space!

Kindergarten will be learning about their own personal space and spacial awareness this next week. After the first few weeks all grades have done a great job being respectful and courteous to classmates. First and second grade will continue their tumbling and movement unit this week.

After we return from Labor Day weekend, Elizabeth Ide will be introducing our PBIS program. We we spend three days teaching ways to be respectable, responsible and safe. On Friday we will have a celebration for the students in the afternoon! Have a great week!

K, L, M, N and O

This week during the ABC countdown students will have Lion Day and wear Ide gear, and listen to Music in the classroom for "M" day. At the end of the week students will be Outside to read for "O" day! Tuesday and Wednesday this week Ms. Wyse will be joining with her class in the gym to meet the kindergartners with some music activities! This is a great chance to have students be excellent role models and for kindergartners to see what is expected as they get ready for next year.

ABC Countdown

This week starts the last 26 days of school. To make it fun, Elizabeth Ide has something planned for each day left of school based on the letter starting with A on Monday! Thursday will be "Dance" day where the students will get to review some of the dances they learned this year in gym.

Tennis!


This past week "Ace" the tennis dog and friends came to Elizabeth Ide for an assembly. Students participated in answering trivia questions and a few even were able to participate in a tennis activity. Elizabeth Ide will also be incorporating tennis into the curriculum next year! Students will learn the basic skills to give them the confidence to succeed as they go on.

Sportsmanship

Weather permitting, PE will be outside to play soccer this week as students have focused on developing skills and have stressed the importance of sportsmanship. With Elizabeth Ide staff using PBIS this year to teach positive behaviors, students understand what good "sports" look like. Hopefully this will continue throughout the rest of the year!

There is no "I" in team

This week, Mr. Martin will be stressing the importance of team work to complete several tasks and activities. Students will be able to use problem solving ideas as well as relying on others to help them to achieve certain goals. Our teamwork unit is usually a lot of fun while the students are able to develop a variety of skills from social skills to strategies for problem solving. We will continue this unit after break as well!

Jump Rope Total!

Students from Elizabeth Ide easily succeeded our goal of 6000 dollars. Elizabeth Ide raised over 7,400 dollars this year! This marks the fourth consecutive year that we have participated in Jump Rope for heart. Thank you for all those who donated to a worthy cause and to all the students for participating!

**Mr. Martin will be starting kickball with all grades this week, focusing on basic skills prior to playing games.

Student Teacher

Mr. Martin will be joining our team for the next six weeks as he completes his student teaching experience at Elizabeth Ide. Please welcome him to the district!

I can not express my gratitude enough for everyone that helped make Jump Rope for Heart such a success. The students had a great time learning about healthy hearts while having a competition between classes. A special thank you to Mrs. Mazurowski for taking time out to come share her heart story with our students.

Bowling!

This week all three grades will be starting bowling. Scoring, rules, taking turns and cooperation will be stressed so that the students can get the most out of this unit. First and Second grade will be learning to score after a few days.

Jump Rope for Heart

Students will be learning jump rope activities over the next few weeks, while learning of the benefits to exercise! As students raise money for the American Heart Association they also learn how they are directly helping others live better lives as a result. Mrs. Mazurowski has offered to share her story with us this year! She will be sharing with the students during Jump Rope for Heart week(Feb. 22nd).

PBIS

Next week, January 24-28, Elizabeth Ide will be implementing an approach to discipline called Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). PBIS is a proactive systems approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional, and academic success.


We will begin by establishing clear expectations for behavior that will be taught, modeled, and reinforced across all settings and by all staff. Our week will culminate with a juggling celebration assembly.

Basketball
