Welcome
Welcome to P.E. at Elizabeth Ide!
Throughout your child’s time at Elizabeth Ide they will be exposed to a wide variety of skills and activities. Kindergarten will spend a lot of the year working on spatial awareness, manipulative skills such as throwing, rolling and kicking, and cooperative tasks working in partners, small groups or teams. First and Second grade is structured around units focusing on individual skills as well as having an SEL focus. Each week students do warm-ups that hit different target areas(endurance, strength, coordination, goal setting and SEL). Students at Elizabeth Ide receive P.E. everyday but only for 20 minutes. In order to see every class every day, a couple of classes in first and second grade are doubled. Emphasis is put on being active everyday and a lifelong enjoyment for physical activity.
Skills covered in Kindergarten

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART
This the most excited I have seen Elizabeth Ide students get about Jump Rope for Heart! As a school have almost already matched our donations last year with a whole week to go! Be sure to ask your children about the different heart messages they are learning about in PE. Thank you to everyone that has made Jump Rope for Heart a success this year and in the years past.

Kickball and Stations
As we wrap up our Halloween activities, 1st and 2nd grade are starting their kickball unit working on a variety of skills(Kicking, throwing, fielding, catching). Kindergarten has been introduced to stations in the gym. We were lucky enough to have some 2nd grade students from Mrs. Schultz's class to come and help model station work for the Kindergartners. In the up coming weeks, kindergarten will be adding Jump Rope and Rock climbing to their station days.

Keeping up in the Gym!
We have had a great start to this year in so many ways! The students are excited to be back and are really focusing on making some Prideful choices. All the grades started the year by working on some teamwork and partner activities. Currently, first and second grade is working on four square and learning to accept getting out is part of the game. This is a great opportunity to practice problem solving and discussing things with their classmates. Kindergarten has been doing a great job working on individual skills and learning to take turns! I couldn't be more proud of the way our students have started the year!

Welcome to a New YEAR!
There are a lot of changes at Ide this year! We have made many changes to our school day as well as staff and the building. I would like to thank the PTO, Heather Tran, Mr. Dodd, Mr. Lazar and anyone else that may have been part of the process to help us get our new soccer goals. I think this is a great addition to our playground and gives the students another option for exercise outdoors.

Students in first and second grade kept track of their bowling scores during the second half of our bowling unit. Students also worked as a team for the whole unit and did a great job! As we head into spring break students are exploring the food pyramid and playing some food related games. Please ask your students about the food groups over break!
Enjoy the long break and hopefully the weather is a little better when we return!

Assessing and Four Square
Students in first grade will be learning to play four square at the end of this week as we wrap up our tennis unit. Second grade will be taking ownership and recording their own data as they try their best as they do some different running activities in PE.
Next week, students will take part in an assembly for Jump Rope for Heart. This will be our kickoff as students will try and raise money for "kids with special hearts". We will wrap up our event on the last two school days of February with a celebration during PE.

Gym Night!
I look forward to seeing all of you who signed up for gym night! If you weren't able to make the cut off don't worry! We are having a second gym night this year later in the spring! It looks to be a fun night with stations throughout the gym and a few other parts of the school!
Look for a save the date coming home in the weekly notes for Jump Rope for Heart! This year our kickoff assembly will be as a school instead of individual classes and our rep will be doing the kickoff with some special incentives!
